## Video resume for tech candidates

A video resume is a set of recorded answers a recruiter watches instead of holding a first call. On ShowIntro it is recorded once and then works for every vacancy: the profile enters recruiter search, and your English level and communication style are visible right away.

### What it gives a candidate

Three things a text CV does not do.

- **Found without applying** — A profile with a recorded presentation enters recruiter search. They filter by specialty, stack, grade and English level and write first – applying to postings is not the only way in.
- **The same questions, answered once** — Experience, motivation and projects get retold on every first call. A recorded answer replaces that conversation for every recruiter at once.
- **English proven by the recording** — A level on a CV is self-assessment, and it gets tested anyway. The English question block lets a recruiter hear pronunciation and sentence construction before the interview – and spares you taking the same test for the tenth time.

### How to record a video resume

About 15 minutes, once. After that the profile works on its own.

- **Fill in the profile** — Specialty, grade, stack, English level, location, availability and expected compensation. These are the fields search filters on, so empty ones keep the profile out of the results.
- **Record the self-presentation** — Up to two minutes in a single take, free form: who you are, what you have worked on, what you are looking for. Retake it as often as you like – only the take you send counts.
- **Answer the question blocks** — Three blocks: General, English and Technical. Questions appear one at a time, up to a minute per answer, with a visible think-time countdown. Technical ones are drawn from your specialty and experience, English ones from the CEFR level you declared.
- **Choose who sees the profile** — Private, link-only or open to search. Only profiles with a recorded presentation enter search – without one, the third option is unavailable.
- **Share the link** — A separate link per recipient, with an expiry and a view counter. Add it to your CV, LinkedIn or email signature, and revoke it whenever you want.

### What decides the quality of a take

Technical details that show up in every recording.

- **Sit facing the light** — A window at your back turns your face into a silhouette: the camera exposes for the background, not for you. Daylight from a window works, so does a desk lamp beside the camera. If the room itself is the problem, turn on background blur – it is written into the file, not just shown in preview.
- **Sound matters more than picture** — A headset microphone beats a laptop microphone in a room with an echo. A mediocre picture is forgiven; speech that is hard to hear is not.
- **One take, no script** — Reading off a screen is visible in where the eyes go. Keep three or four bullet points in front of you instead of a text: question blocks allow a single take, and it is the naturalness of the answer that separates it from a rehearsal.

### Who sees your recordings

The candidate picks the level of access and changes it at any time.

- **Private** — Only you can see the recordings. The profile appears neither in search nor through a link – this mode fits the stage where the recording exists but showing it would be premature.
- **Link only** — The profile opens for whoever you send the link to. It is absent from recruiter search. Each link carries its own expiry and is revoked separately.
- **Open to search** — The profile appears in recruiter results and in search engines. This is the only mode in which recruiters find you themselves; it is switched off the same way it is switched on.

### Frequently asked questions

- **How long should a video resume be?** — The self-presentation runs up to two minutes, and that is enough: a recruiter decides within the first twenty seconds. Answers in the question blocks run up to a minute each. A longer recording does not improve your chances; it lowers the odds of being watched to the end.
- **Can an answer be re-recorded?** — The self-presentation, yes – as often as you like, and only the take you send counts. In the question blocks each question allows a single take with a visible think-time countdown, which is what keeps answers from different candidates comparable.
- **What do I say if I do not know where to start?** — A structure that works: what you do and how long you have done it, what you have worked on recently, which part of it was yours, and what you are looking for next. Four sentences already make a complete presentation.
- **Will my current employer see the profile?** — Only if you chose "open to search" – that mode makes the profile visible to everyone, search engines included. "Private" and "link only" give no such visibility.
- **Is the English block mandatory?** — No, all three blocks are optional. But for vacancies with a client abroad, English level is the first question asked, and a recorded answer settles it before the first contact.
- **What does it cost a candidate?** — Nothing for the duration of the beta. Recording the profile and answering recruiters are free; a monthly limit applies to the number of presentations sent.
